Has Anyone Had Stem Cell Theraphy, And If So Did It Help Parkinsons Or Any Other Conditions?
I was at a PD Symposium put on by Oregon Health Sciences University on Saturday. They emphasized that there is not currently any effective stem cell treatment for PD and that those offering it are trying to take advantage of people. I'd wait until your neurologist or professional journals are saying that there is a legitimate new treatment. Good luck.
I don't know about a trial, but my husband who has arthritis went to a seminar about it. He told the doctor at the seminar about my Parkinsons , and the doctor claims stem cells can help with Parkinsons.
My husband participated in a double blind study using retinal cells. The treatment unfortunately did not work and the study was cancelled. From my research, the current groups listing these stem cell treatments are not sound groups. The only thing I have found is the promise to spend more money, not an avenue for a cure. Make sure you follow sound sites (ie. MJ Fox Foundation, etc) for groups doing the work. I tell you think because my husband wants a cure so badly (21 years into this) that he will believe anything. It is hard to watch but I will say he was able to have the DBS some years ago and it turned the clock back. He was unable to keep the unit as he kept getting infections but it took him from stage 4 back to 2 and it has been out about 6 years now and he can still manage quite well. good luck
It was in the Phoenix area. He is going for a consultation tomorrow.
MichelleWP, where did your husband go to this seminar? Did they mention stem cells anywhere in the US? I think they do use adult stem cells somewhere.
I've Heard Of People Who Were Diagnosed With PD And Years Later Find Out It Wasn't. What Would You Do?
Can Anyone Enlighten Me On The Term Parkinsons Plus Please?
