In addition to PD, I also have fibromyalgia, so for me the answer is an unequivocal yes. I strongly believe that a large part of the benefit of exercise for those with PD has to do with practicing rhythmic movement and using external cues to retrain the brain. The motor control that is automatic for those without PD becomes less and less automatic for us. However, we can train our prefrontal cortex to take over the job. Visual, auditory (moving to music or using a metronome), and kinesthetic (e.g.using a treadmill or bicycle) cues help us do that.

T'ai chi and yoga help in other ways, keeping us flexible and strong, and honing our balance skills.

One thing that works well for me is to do short (~10 min.) sessions of exercise throughout the day rather than trying to do one long session.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member, all of the research shows that the more intense the workout the better. Like most things, there is a point where anything can be too much and you may have reached that point. I would experiment with alternating intense workout days with less aggressive workout days. More importantly, make sure that it isn't just your Parkinsonian brain trying to fool you into thinking that your exercise routine is problematic. I battle with this on a daily basis and have learned to deal with it as the benefits from the exercise are many.
