AMINO ACIDS DR. HINZ THEORY - SNAKE OIL OR NOT?
I came across information on another PD blog about Dr. Hinz and his amino acid theory for PD. The blogger provided a link to an article about the dr. on Quackwatch. -

For the folks who are using amino acids therapy, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on the therapy and how it may be working for you.
Hi
I was not on any PD meds at the time I was taking the Hinz protocol. You have to find a dr that uses this protocol as Hinz doesn't take patients. I cant recall what state you're living in? But for me living in VA, the closest doc that used that protocol was in OH, where I traveled to see him to get on protocol. Every time you have a dose change, which is often as you are building up to the correct dose for you, there is a phone consult with the dr at approx. $100 a call.
There are other sites on the web about Hinz. One I read said he used to be in weight loss mgmt. Not sure how that relates to PD. Another site said he actually lost his medical license for a time, cannot remember why now but if you look hard enough you'll find the site I saw.
I also don't think the typical medical drs know very much, or I should say their knowledge is limited to inside the box. I've been hearing good things about a number of the B vitamins, not only B1. Have not hear about thiamine. I will look into it.
I did try daily injections of glutathione for about 6 months. Did not notice anything change.
I was on a study for 3 years but I still don't know if it was the placebo or not. It was called Isradipine. It was originally a blood pressure med that they felt could have value for PD but I haven't gotten any result back yet.
So now, I've mainly been focusing on learning about the Ketogenic diet, a high good fat diet that feeds the brain and also exercise. I read 2 books by Dr David Perlmutter called Grain Brain and The Brain Maker to learn about diet. I read The Brain's Way of Healing by Norman Doidge, chapter 2 is about a man with PD who uses walking to help alleviate his symptoms. There's also a lot of info out there on exercising at 80% of your max heart rate 3x/week for 45min which releases growth hormone factor which helps the brain. I think its the premise for the bike riding study.
You should be aware of this if you are taking high dose B1.

how much? taken with B1? keto doesn't mean 0 carbs, just wondering if it'd be enough?
B1 requires carbs to be more effective.
yes, its not for PD symptoms, its for brain health. do you consume other fats such as canola, vegetable, sunflower etc? Perlmutter says only healthy fat is coconut, olive, avocado and walnut. I don't know how to cook with avocado or walnut so I only use coconut and olive. But they cannot tolerate high temps or it makes them bad too. It seems if you read 4 so called trusted doctors you'll get 4 different answers of whats right...…...so frustrating and confusing. I guess just have to pick one and go with it.
