River Cruising
Has anyone tried the river cruising? Wondering how they are set up to serve disabled folks. For example, are you able to arrange for motorized scooters to use?
I just got back from a river cruise on the Rhine. There were many passengers with mobility issues and I would say the cruise company did a fair job in accommodating them. There was an interior lift between the three covered decks (where the staterooms, dining room, and lounge/bar are), but there was no way to get to the top (sun) deck without climbing stairs. This was unfortunate because the views from the sun deck were spectacular. I did not see a motorized scooter used by any of the 158 passengers during the week, either on board or on the shore excursions. I am sure that if you inquired specifically about scooters they might be able to provide them. I noticed that several passengers who used walkers and/or canes simply stayed on the vessel while people went ashore for sightseeing. The cities and villages where the boat stopped were picturesque and beautiful, but some were very hilly and I noticed a lack of accommodation that we see here in the USA thanks to ADA.
Not sure about River Cruise but on cruise ships you are allowed to have them
Two years ago l did a eight day cruise and the amount of walkers were amazing,, you can achieve anything with determination, the ship would of had three hundred. People on it, just organised Laos.
You're welcome. By the way, the cruise company was Scenic (based in Australia). It's similar to the more well-known Viking River cruise line.
Just the sort of feedback I was looking for. Thanks so much!
