My hair is thinning too. My dermatologist did a biopsy and said it isTelogen Effluvium. I am taking 10,000mcg's of biotin twice a daY, but see no improvement . Checked reasons for hair loss on meds on the computer and see Sinemet {carb/levodopa} can be a cause. I take this 4 times a day 7:00 AM 11:00AM,
3:00 PM, 7:00PM.
Wow what next?

Hi! Very good question. 10 months ago @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member and 2 months ago BreannaBenjamin asked this one, too. Here is a synopsis of my favorite answers: @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: I don't use any hair spray or blow dry my hair. My hairdresser noticed it to[o] and suggested that I use a product called Clinicure (Botanical Thinning hair Solution) 1Cleanse, 2 Nourish. My hairdresser had them in the shop. It has helped, I use[d] to have a lot of hair and it did grow back a lot, but not totally. I hope that you can find it. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: I take vita melts for hair, skin and nails. Me: I used to use an expensive, hard to find commercial product, but the active ingredient was just peppermint oil. I put peppermint oil in my dab of conditioner in my hand when I finish washing my hair. I have also just put it on my scalp & let it stay in. I also avoid dyes & perms. A conditioner that contains coconut oil helps a lot too. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: My recipe for hair loss. After 3 months of use stopped falling out
1 bottle of baby shampoo + 5 drops of castor oil + 3 drops of vitamin E + 4 +5 drops of lemon essential oil. Mix well with shampoo and wash your head. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: My doctor recommended biotin 10,000 mg and an iron pill day and I'm beginning to see a little growth. Also if there are any small areas I cover it with a powder I get at the beauty supply store. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: I just purchased Biotin tablets and my hairdresser recommended BioSilk shampoo/conditioner and a therapy rinse too. Saw at Walmart to day for about $24. Decided to try a different one with just shampoo with biotin. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: The problem I had with hair loss had to do with taking an anti seizure med; when I was taken off the med my hair grew back and the body returned, so that's probably not helpful to you. My big problem with hair is an extremely dry scalp which resembles cradle cap. I, too, use coconut oil to condition and moisturize; I also use it for my very dry skin. To wash my hair I use pine tar soap and a conditioner. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: Seborrhea common to Parkinsons. I do not take any PD meds. Stopped a couple months ago because of side effects. So my problem is all PD. Every couple of weeks I use Neutragena T-Gel shampoo and it really helps scalp. But still have a little problem with thinning hair and losing a few strands every day. Biotin once a day helps, I believe. Neurologist recommends brushing hair every morning and evening with soft boar bristle brush. THAT is a big help, @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member said: I had the same problem, a herbologist suggested I put Lennon’s bergamot essence in my shampoo. My hair grew back and is healthier than ever. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member said: I use conditioner more than I use to. @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member: femalehairloss I found some information about hair loss and medication for PD. I copy the link here for your information http://forum.parkinson.org/topic/3022-informati...

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - not just any brush with soft bristles, but a brush made from the natural bristles or hairs of a boar, that is a male pig. You can get one at a health food store.

I Love Nioxin! I used to it a lot, even before I got PD. But I did find that it is expensive & hard to find. Since the active ingredient in it is just peppermint oil, I put peppermint oil in my dab of conditioner in my hand when I finish washing my hair. I have also just put peppermint oil on my scalp & let it stay in. I also avoid dyes & perms. A conditioner that contains coconut oil helps a lot too. Enjoy your beautiful natural hair!
