is the l dopa general medication addictive. Has anyone used mucuna pruriens with the l dopa and has anyone tried to stop using the meds
I feel I am addicted, cannot function normally with the meds
I am taking 4 carbilevo 100g daily and one sinemet at night. My optimal functional time is about 2 hours with each dose.
Sounds like a Metamucil, for anti drooling?
We are not addicted to our meds. We are just putting in what the PD has caused us to stop producing.
Thanks for a detailed and comprehensive answer. I don't intend to go off the meds. it seems that we are indeed reliant on the drugs to function. I am now also aware that my speech is affected with the down times
Please don't stop your medicine. '"Drug holidays" were once tried to see if patients could drop back to a lower dose of levodopa, and bad things happened such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome. high fevers, delirium. Some patients felt that they never got back to baseline. i haven't tried mucuna pruriens but again i would discuss it thoroughly with my main doctor. You might find that an extender medication such as a mao inhibitor or encaptone gets you significantly more on time. Ask your doctor if there's one you could take. Being off is not a good thing in my book from its tightening of my muscles and consequent risk of falling, to my hopeless moods... and heaven knows i don't feel like exercising at that point.
no it is the indian velvet bean, has ldopa in it. it is being sold as a powder. I was wondering if anyone had used it successfully for down times.
Has anyone tried Mucuna pruriens as a supplement to Carbidopa/levidopa? How much is safe to take.
Is there anyone using Mucuna pruriens for PD symptoms?
