Does Anyone Have Trouble Sitting Still In The Dentist Chair?
I try to sit still but my body has other ideas. If anyone has that problem, let me know what you do for it. Bean
I have had a fear of the dentist all my life. I did just find a good one, though. She and I have a system that works pretty well. Since her eyes are on my mouth, and not my legs, if I feel a wiggle or movement coming on, or heaven forbid, any pain, I have to raise my left hand. She stops immediately, then we start chatting about anything but my teeth. It calms me down and when I give her the "thumbs up", she knows I'm settled down and she can continue. However, I like the idea of the lead apron on my legs that someone gave to you. I think I'll suggest that to her the next appointment!
@ Bean and @A MyParkinsonsTeam Member I take an Ativan about 15 mins prior to my appt. I also take a CD to listen to and about 4 elastic bands. I put the bands on my wrists & twirl them through my fingers. I eat lightly the day before and prior to my appt. I have had sedation dentistry 2 times!!!! (Could be dystonia acting up, my dentist said!!
I also have an antibiotic before my appt. (Clyndamycin)
Hi RuthAnn, your right. Last time I had a root canal it took hours. I think my head stayed put but my feet and legs were jumping out of the chair.Bean
I have had route canals (not sure of spelling), too moving all over the place. Thank goodness my head doesn't really move too much.
I try to time my meds so that I am in a relatively "non-moving" state, which is really hard. But you'd be surprised at how well dentists cope with a non-stop moving patient. I don't always time it right and sometimes my dyskinesea are really bad, but the dentist is very accomodating and puts me at ease. She always says that I'm fine, as long as my head isn't moving! It's usually just the rest of me that is moving! It's always a challenge, but we try to make the best of it.
