Have You Heard About Tyrosine? It Wasas Made Just For Us PDers...at Least I T

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member We will keep chiseling away at this disease until we can toss it in the trash bin and get on with our lives.
I am not familiar with is, but there is plenty of information on the Internet on Tyrosine and L-Tyrosine. Among other uses, it is shown to be effective in boosting chemical messengers that are involved in conditions involving the brain such as mental alertness. Tyrosine is one of about 20 standard amino acids Go to:http://www.webmd.com Results of a trial by the MDS/MDS Journals/Movement Disorders, can be seen at: http://www.movementdisorders.org/MDS/Journals/C...
@Dr.GarySharpePhD Food for thought. Thank you. For 2 years I have taken a daily scoop of denatured whey includes l-tyrosine. And this past week 1200 mg of NAC. Mannitol as well. Boosting serotonin levels. My life partner looked intently at my moving around the house cleaning, arranging our meds, , clothes several errands at once and remarked "I haven't heard you say you can't focus or you can't think for 8 months or more." So something must be working.
Dopamine is synthized in the body and brain from the chemical we call L-Dopa.
L-Dopa is in food, in particular high levels in fava and velvet beans, but also created in the body and brain too from a chemical called L-tyrosine. L-tyrosine is one of 22 amino acids in human biology. L-tyrosine is also produced in the body from proteins we eat by enzymes, but can also be ingested from food too [or as a food supplement]. Chicken, turkey and eggs are high in L-tyrosine.
Somewhere down the line the pharma and healthcare industries made a huge mistake - or didn't care due to profits - because the whole of the science of PD screams out that L-tyrosine is the natural pathway and going straight to L-Dopa wreaks havoc. In paricular the saturation of the system with L-Dopa means the enzyme reaction of L-tyrosine in the body becomes dormant - but this enzyme is also extremely important for thyroid function. There is a strong correlation between thyroid and PD problems...
There have been small scale clinical trials of using L-tyrosine instead of L-dopa for PD, and these tend to show very much better outcomes for participants - less side effects [dyskinesia in particular], less decline. A russian paper from 1989 is very important.
The fact that as this thread shows, most people with PD are being kept blissfully unaware of this basic bio-chemistry is very telling, and disgusting, in my view. So is the fact that large scale clinical trials have never been funded. Why? Because we can all pick up l-tyrosine without prescription very cheaply. If it was shown to be the effective "curative" for PD, there would be no profit in it for University Deparments or Bio Tech/Pharma Companies. I spent far too many years at the heart of the scientific grant system to understand that the interests of the suffering do not come very high up the agenda.

OK, I have been self-experimenting with l-tyrosine. Now, remember I'm 8 years in and my brain and body is now completely habitualized to l-dopa drugs. For me, l-tyrosine doesn't work. In fact it blocks the functioning of the drugs completely and gives me chronic liquid poo. This is very bad news :-0
"L-DOPA therapy is hindered by many obstacles, one of which is excess protein (specifically, aromatic amino acids [of which l-tyrosine is one]) competing with L-DOPA for transport into the brain. Therefore, some studies have evaluated the effects of engaging in protein meal redistribution, involving eating dietary protein separate from dosing with L-DOPA. "
