To All People Who Are/were Diagnosed Under Age 45 : Do You Feel Different Because Of PD ?
Surely, I feel different because I was Dx with YOPD at age 27 ; five years ago.I'm probably the 1st person to be diagnosed in the 20s.We don't see this in Québec.I have never seen or heard about an other young person with YOPD where I live.I feel like I'm stuck in a hole and that I have nobody that I can relate to (someone that is in my age group that would understand the challenges & struggle of YOPD) I would love to go at a support group but I feel like and outcast like I don't belong… read more
Exactly Manon, it is different but each persons has their own struggles. For me age is a big deal. When I'm having a really bad tremor day at work or in a public place and people stare with disgusted looks because they think your some drug user..yeah its different. And there's the other thing work...I'm a single mom and I have to keep working but the symptoms of fatigue, pain , stiffiness, speech, dementia make it hard and for a YOPD patient to get any governmen't assistance is like pulling teeth.
Now all that being said I know older patients have their own struggles too but just different.
So she is not saying anything about division just we have different challenges
Manon Im with you and all my PD brothers and sisters.
Being dx under age 45, brings a different set of challenges: career, family.... it's really different from being diagnosed in the 60s.... Older people with PD,it's not the same thing
I was diagnosed at 43 , I fall in the category of YOPD. I am now 50 with three young adult children , 19,20 and 25. I am struggling to find work . I can deal with the tremors of PD. The problem is I believe others look at us as a liability. Not a good feeling but my plan is to work till 70. Not giving in to this crappy disease. I will
get back into the game and when I do I will post it here. Never surrender.
Absolutely I feel different at such a young age and it is hard to connect with younger PD patients who are working and raising kids and so on, but this site has been amazing. We all have different struggles no matter what age.
