Sinemet

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭
Johannesburg, ZA

I was told by my Pharmacist to take my [[treatment:Sinemet:55d551c11fcaa39f0e[[phone:000079]] 100 1:]] 1/2 tabs three times a day after food.

I have read in this post that one should take it 30 - 60 mins before food and preferably not with high protein diet.

I'm confused!!
When should I take the Sinemet? Before or after food?

I find the side effects of the quick release 100 to be nausea and drowsiness after taking it.

I take the Carb/Leva about an 1 1/2 hrs before I eat. I have a problem with my Kidneys so I have to limit my protein to 3 1/2 ozs of protein in a day.
I have not had any trouble with my meds. I take BP meds also and don't take those meds with PD meds.

I take the Carb/Leva an hour before I eat or 1 1/2 hours after I eat. Either way is good. It doesn't work with protein so I limit my protein also. My neurologist told me to do this and for the most part it works but I still have freezing episodes.

Are you seeing a Neurologist who is a Movement Disorder Specialist ? Stalevo has a component that helps with nausea, but up to your Doc to make the switch.

Take your medication about an hour after you have eaten any protein. Then don't take any medication for about an hour or more after finished eating protein. It really helps to make your medication more effective. It can be a big nuisance to cope with all the scheduling but it pays off.
