Stiffness

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭
Upland, CA

Hello everyone hope you had a great holiday. My question is yesterday my arm felt so heavy and like it was made of stone. I couldn't move it. When my husband rubbed my arm it started to hurt 😭 then it would be shaking only my wrist but then it would again feel like stone heavy, fingers in a claw grip and stay like that for minutes. It hurt so bad. Has this happened to anyone??

Stiffness in hand or legs is called freezing......flexing your hand and muscles help.A nother question asked was falling over objects the PD person should learn to lift his legs when walking and not to shuffle.Posture is important.tummy tucked in, bum tucked in shoulders back chin tucked in eyes straight ahead.....stand like this with toes also pulled in,fist one leg then the other hold onto a chair.Walking.....walk normal then walk raising the knee.....helps to avoid objects ......walk and lift leg to the back ..like kicking your bum also helps......use your arms to stretch sideways and up...helps to get things off shelves I will try to get Stellenbosch university contact details maybe they can provide. DVD,s of our classes that we participated in for balancing....hitting a ballon is lots of fun......helps u focus, helps with wrist movement, eye co.ordination and stretching.........have fun.....also doing the exercises with dark glasses on helps to prepare you when you have to walk in the dark

@MaryilynSchoenhofen. I'm trying to figure out if this is PD related. I guess the most common cause of sudden heaviness or numbness and pain in the arm is the squashed nerve. Have you had any problems with your back or your neck? How about overall arthritis? It could be associated to some kind of spondylosis… Perhaps cervical spondylosis or It could be an unusual case of neuropathy There could be a number of reasons why you are reacting as you are.

I am assuming you have PD. And if you do, all the symptoms are or could be PD related. Have you seen your neurologist? If not see him/her ASAP and tell them what is going on. Sterling
