At What Point Do You Begin Sinemet? My Husband Does Not Realize How Slow He Moves. He Gets Very Tired. But Does Not Want To Take Meds
My husband does not want to take meds due to reaction to amantadine where legs swelled. What does sinemet do for you? Concerned that he might enjoy life more if not so tired physically and could walk at a "normal" speed
Sinemet is a combination drug of carbidopa and levodopa. As I understand it, the carbidopa is included because it assist with nausea and keep the body from breaking down the levadopa ( dopamine ) before it gets to the brain.
Unfortunately we have no actual medication for Parkinson’s disease. Every medication we take is designed to mask a symptom created by the disease. So it does nothing to slow, stop, prevent, cure, etc... Parkinson’s disease.
Sinemet's purpose is to boost dopamine levels in a Parkinson’s brain.
It's primary purpose is to mask symptoms and increase quality of life and that's exactly what it does for the majority of Parkinson’s patients.
I was also resistance in taking any type of drugs. I waited to even go to a doctor until my symptoms grew to a point that my quality of life was suffering, I could no longer hide my tremors, my stiffness, slow gate and balance issues, etc... it all started to interfere with my daily activities.
First off, the medications are far from perfect, but if you work with your doctor to dial in the dosage and then follow the routine, you'll be surprised how effective they work. I saw relief from my symptoms within hours and then I started noticing small symptoms disappearing that I hadn't even realized were caused by the Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s is a progressive and to date incurable disease. It's relentless and unless you fight it with everything in your arsenal, it will not stop until it wins.
Just take the medications, eat healthy and exercise. Keep your body in motion.
Acknowledge to yourself that you are not going to get
Well. The medicine that is available helps you move better. Try it.
Each day is a new normal speed. My family grew very impatient with the slowness and unsteadiness of my walking. Finally, it got to where it was a burden on them for me to go anywhere with them. Please accept his walking speed as normal for each day. At least he is still able to walk. Count your blessings and give polite encouragement. Medication will not speed up movements. Do a lot of research to help him as an informed advocate.
TELL HIM TO TAKE THE MEDS! THEY REALLY HELP YOU MOVE ! Im able to work 30 hours a week as a massage therapist....because of my Sinemet, working out, swimming and stretching...chiropractic care and cranio sacral therapy
If I miss or am late for my sinemet dose, I will move slower and take smaller steps.
Who Has Been Using Sinemet (carbodopa/levodopa) For More Than Five Years? Dyskinesias? Please Mention Dose And Other Pd Meds.
