If You Are Taking Carbidopa-Levodopa (Sinemet) Could You Please Share Your Pill Schedule With Me?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭
Saginaw, MI

I am currently taking [[treatment:Sinemet:55d551c11fcaa39f0e[[phone:000079]] 25-100:]]. I am to take 2 pills 3x daily. However I have not been instructed as to how much time I should leave between each dose. Would anyone be able to share with me what your schedule looks like? I have been told that taking pills on time is very important. I do know the rule about protein-- Take medication 30 minutes before eating or 2 hours after eating.

When I started out I was only taking 2 tablets at bed time. Over time my neurologist and I worked out a schedule that works for me. People may not like to hear this, but I take Senemet every 3 hours around-the-clock. Lately I have been doing better so have stopped the 3:00 a.m. dose in order to be able to sleep for a longer period of time. Sometimes I skip the 6 as well and take two at 9 o'clock in the morning. This works very well for me. Hope it helps you.

I started Levocarb 100/25 over 2 months ago. My schedule is 1 pill 3x a day. My 1st is taken at 6 , 2nd is at 1 PM and the 3rd is 7 PM. I am on the lowest dose possible and because of possible side effects it was gradually taken. Having been a nurse, I did exactly what the neurologist told me to do, except listen to PD. meds and the protein factor. Pharmacists and PARKINSON'S scientists have discovered that if you eat a great deal of protein based foods and take your pills immediately after eating, absorption of the medication is impaired therefore meds are less effective. That is why one has to wait 2 hours after a meal to take the meds or take 1 hour prior to a meal.Doctors are not the experts in pharmaceuticals.

I take 2 sinemet 5 x daily and 10gm requip (ropinerole)!at bedtime. The sinemet is spaced out by 2 1/2 hours across the day. I am mostly stable but do get some wearing off time when the next dose is due - this was the reason for switching to five times daily, previously I took 3 pills, 3 times daily.
You are right about keeping to strict timings and not taking them with protein, I am very careful about this but still find that sometimes the drugs just don't kick in!
Hope this helps, best wishes

Just try to have even amount of time between your doses. I take five pills a day so I'm taking them every three hours so we are all different. So yours would be morning noon and night so your about every four or four and a half hours
