Have You Seen Reports About Improvments In Parkinson's Symptons After Riding A Bike Either Stationary Or Otherwise? Have You Tried It?
Recent posts on Facebook claim riding a bike produces major improvements in tremors allowing people to stop tremors for hours afterward.
There have been more reports that both can help. My husband has that as part of his therapy and I have to say it has helped hi balance and also his memoirs. But it only last a short time with tremors. However his balances seems better but walking high steps and swing arms has been the best. He is not shuffling his feet on the floor. When in public he does not like to high step walk as he feels funny. But He is not shuffling on he is in public.
I use a stationary bike to work on my legs. And for the excerise.
I am currently exploring all the ways which we can move and practicing them. Through repeated action, I am quickly regaining my movement. This includes:
playing with balls;
using props such as sticks;
walking up and down stairs;
the right shoes (I wear a brand called FitFlops which have a special technology to give better pressure feedback with the bottom of the feet)
doing it all to motivational music.
In short, there is all to play for with Parkinson's.
I attend exercise classes at a gym specializing in helping PD patients regain their "muscle memory"" for BIG movement and balance. Part of our class routine is time on stationary bikes that can pedal both forward and backward. We are encouraged to build up our pedaling speed as our bodies are reminded of pre-PD behaviors. The tred mill and stair stepper are also used to reteach our bodies what we are still capable of doing despite being "fooled" by our Parkinson's.
Yes I have seen them. It would be a good thing if we could all now jump on our bikes and peddle into the horizon but we are surrounded by busy road these days with great big lorries and there are not many cycle paths around. This is a perfect example of how they work...They say, "cycling is good for you", job done. Who are the people who carry out a plan to help and encourage us to cycle...We are ill and one of the symptoms of our illness is lack of motivation, in that we get down and depressed.... When will they come up with a good solid plan and follow it through...instead of chucking in the odd word like, ' cycling, diet, stressless environment, fitness,' Do the health providers think they are playing scrabble with our lives or what???
