Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
What are some things I can do to keep my dad strong and active? It's hard for him to get around; he walks but really can't go it alone...I have to be w him just in case. How can I keep him strong and active!? Anything I can do diet wise, exercise .....how can I see his days arent lonely and borkng. And how do I go about getting him a lift chair he needs one it seems it a bit of a process.....
You might consider a recumbent exercise bike. There isn't any high seat to perch on like a regular bike...you're more "sitting". When I go to the gym the one thing I ALWAYS do, if nothing else, is use the treadmill.
Look for classes in Rock steady Boxing in your area. WE also found a nursing home in our area that offers Parkinson's exercises free to the public. Any stretching adn exercise is wonderful.
My husband rises our stationary bike and works out with his striking bag as well as walking. Any type of exercise his PT can think of. His dr says the fact that he has always has stayed in good physical shape has kept his disease from advancing . He is 80 years old and was diagnosed at the age of 70.
Find some light exercise he can do. Have you heard about a physical therapy class called big? It would be perfect for him. any kind of hobbies he likes? Does he read? If you have a co,mputer youcan find exercise onit . some even for sitting Try that for starters..
Furniture stores also carry lift chairs. Also an exercise bike is very good for them to use! Shopping for one for my husband as we are too far from physical therapy to go often enough , should use one several days a week if not more.
