Do Any Of You Know Of Board And Care Homes That Specialize In Parkinsons?
Minnesota has several board and care homes with care designed for Parkinsons patients--does anyone know of any further south?
Hello dear Mona Rae, Did you know that there are places that have assisted living that not only will take care of Ron but will also take care of you and your needs. These places are to be had almost anywhere.I have a couple of friends who are both aged and sick. They have been married forever but they simply cannot take care of each other any longer.
They both moved into one of these facilities as a couple and it allows them to continue living together and doing what they "can" do for each other. All you would need to worry about is to be there for Ron. Everything, including cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene are provided for you. No more heavy lifting and "wearing" yourself out. They also allow you to go back home if Ron gets better. (would you want to move back?) Medicare provides a portion of this arrangement. There are many, many options to help you and Ron live comfortably. It is not a limited offering.
Check into possibilities such as facilities where you can bring and furnish your lifestyle with all your personal necessities as a couple. When you say you want something further south...Mississippi? Louisiana? Do a search for a place that fits all your needs and see what you can find. I'm going to search just for my own satisfaction and share what I find with you.
Sterling--as a matter of fact, I've been considering this but wanted a facility with a PD speciality--however, Arkansas doesn't have one but we do have assisted living communities all around us--there is an enhanced assisted living facility about 30 minutes away that I'm going to check into--leaving our house and privacy would be very hard but I know in time adjustments can be made.
Hi Mona! With Ron dealing with his back problems on top of PD it really stinks. When Walter kept falling in December his neurologist suggested that he go to an Acute Rehab (which was a distance but well worth it) but told us not to go during Christmas/New Year because they would just treat his blood pressure in the ER and send him home. The deal with being admitted to a facility here in New York, you have to be admitted to the hospital for 3 days and a strongly written referral from the neurologist to an acute rehab (as opposed to sub-acute) The patient has more physical therapy than sub. And of course there was occupational and speech therapy. Of course I don't know if you have any acute rehabs near you. Good luck. I wish I had more info for you.

I really do owe you an apology for that last message I wrote to you. I am the one (for sure!} that was crossing boundaries with my message. I hope I didn't offend you too much. I do care about you and about your Dad.

Is this something that your dad has asked you to research for him? I get a little concerned sometimes that you may be crossing boundaries with him on this issue. I know you really care and because of this deep caring for him, you maybe doing things for him that are keeping you from staying focused on your problems. You've heard of the song, "Row your boat" I am sure. It says "Row "your" boat gently "down" the stream. Merrily, merrily life is but a dream." It is really important to stay focused in the "Now", instead of our concerns for the "imagined" future.
