Overview
Gocovri is a prescription drug approved by the U.S.Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat dyskinesia (movement disorder) in people with Parkinson’s disease who are also receiving levodopa-based therapy. Gocovri is also referred to by its drug name, amantadine.
Gocovri is classified as an antiviral and anti-Parkinsonian drug. It is believed that Gocovri works by increasing the amount of dopamine available in the brain.
How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Gocovri is generally taken once daily.
Gocovri comes in the form of an extended-release capsule.
Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Gocovri lists common side effects including hallucinations, dizziness, dry mouth, swelling of legs and feet, constipation, a drop in blood pressure when standing, and falls.
Rare but serious side effects listed for Gocovri include hallucinations, suicidal thoughts or behavior, falling asleep during normal daytime activities, and impulsive behavior.
