Anyone Else Have Double-vision Problems?

A MyParkinsonsTeam Member asked a question 💭

I get double-vision more frequently now. Like when when watching tv or using laptop. It gets so annoying having to try to consciously focus my eyes. Sometimes I even watch by closing one eye or using my hand to cover one eye. Seems some of it is related to lack of sleep. I have bad insomnia now, wake often and often can't sleep past 3am. So I nap a lot in afternoons. At one time I thought it might be a side-effect of the Neupro patch. Anyone else deal with double-vision?

Another eye thing is that when I sleep my eyes do not produce tears automatically now so my eyes dry out and the eyelids stick together and I think the eyelids also get stuck to my eyes. This makes for a slow and careful process to open my eyes. Sometimes Night Lubricant ointment helps, sometimes it doesn't.

I have it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Dring the day it doesn't bother me. I like to do word puzzles in the morning to remind myself I still have a brain and I like to read at night,. but it becomes more like reading with your eyes closed and then the book hits the floor with an almighty bang and everyone is awake! At least I can still read my recipe book so I waste my time making cakes and biscuits for tea time at Dance for Parkinson's . A I live in Cape town and there are frequent power out ages you have to be careful whe nyou want to use the oven. I have looked out all my non ovened recipies and with a gas stove top we cope well.

I have no experience with a neuro patch but I think Dale has it right. we got weakenmed muscles . There are evercises you can try. I had someone come to see me about mine and she gave me special lens but it made it my condition worse not better. You might be more lucky especially if your double vision lasts all day.

Parkinson’s weakens the muscles that control your eyes

Erianne. Here is the thing. I am always jetlagged to a certain degree, waking at 3am (insomnia) and going for long walks. Then naps throughout the day as sleep-deprivision-headaches come. So I am trained for jetlag and almost immune to actual jetlag. :) We all are.

In terms of sleep and acting out dreams, maybe some of you can related to this... I slept a little in the Vancouver airport, like 10 minutes. And on the flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong, like maybe an hour of light sleep. I wanted more but when I was slipping into light sleep my body had these sort of electric jolts (myoclonus jolts) that made me suddenly jump, my arms jump, or legs jump. It looks not good. I had probably 10 of them during the 2nd of 3 flights.

That was nothing compared to the light sleep REM acting out dreams. While seated on the plane, I woke suddenly reaching out many times. Also in my dream I would feel an object in my hand, like in the dream I was eating soup with a spoon or something with a fork. I'd bring the food up to my mouth but could not feel it as I tried biting it. I'd wake feeling that I had lifted the fork/spoon up while my mouth bit at nothing. Finally more awake, I realized I had no spoon/fork in my hand and there was no plate or bowl and then my lips were closing on air. Many times I woke and was talking, I don't know how loud.

The plane was darkened so people were sleeping. I didn't look around to see if anyone watched. Also the plane made noise that hopefully covered my talking. Other acting out where I was sure I held objects in my hand but as I woke more, I realized I had none or maybe I held the finger of my other hand, but it felt the object I thought I held. I acted out probably 30 times, in and out of sleep and acting out in some way.

If anyone observed me they might have thought I was crazy talking to no one. Not realizing I was acting out dreams. I would sleep, act out, sleepily awake, try to stay awake but fall asleep again and keep repeating one after another.
I stayed awake in Hong Kong airport and on the flight from there to Bangkok.

I am happy i'm in Thailand though.
