Can An Injury & Long Hospital Stay Make Parkinsons Worse?
On Oct 8 my husband broke a hip & has been hospitalized since. His Parkinsons seems to be getting worse more quickly. Is that common?
In 2022 I was hospitalized for 4 weeks plus a week in a rehab facility. It was a struggle almost every day to get the staff to recognize my special needs as a "Parkie". They often didn't respect my schedule forPD meds. I was labeled a fall risk so my bed was alarmed if I tried get up. I could go on, but the point is you need to prepare your self in advance for hospital visits.
Check out a group named - Parkinson's foundation. They offer a kit to present to the hospital upon admittance. They will send it to you free or they ask for a voluntary donation of $8.00 for postage. I can't list all the things in the kit but one thing is; 1) A letter to the hospital from your neurologist explaining your special needs as a person with PD. .Of course you have to get your Dr. to sign this in advance. This kit is designed to be completed in case you have to go to the hospital. Check it out. Waiting until you go to the hospital is too late.
I'm sorry to hear that. It's just so hard. My heart goes out c to you and your wife
I’m not a doctor, but my Parkinson’s also seems to be getting worse! Use to have “respite” days, but now, fewer and my “Parkinson’s “ free days are being limited to 7a to about 3p. Not much of a break for my wife or me!
